s the fastest growing community in Wisconsin, our landscape is changing in so many ways. While Sun Prairie remains a wonderful place to live, this rapid growth has meant new challenges for those of us charged with ensuring the safety and protecting the rights of all citizens.
More residents mean more dangers in the form of speeders, drunk drivers, burglars, greater pressure on students to experiment with drugs, and a host of other criminal activities that threaten the stability of our families. Last year alone, we dealt with approximately 780 traffic accidents, 315 drunk driving incidents, 730 thefts, over 1,000 disorderly conduct incidents, 335 cases of vandalism, 160 drug offenses and 40 sexual assaults.
