By 1999, the city population had swelled to over 11,000, and the police department had 22 sworn police officers. There were also 4 dispatchers on staff at that time. As we close 2005, the department has an authorized strength of 34 sworn officers, serving a community with more than 18,000 people.
The original police department was located in City Hall, which was then at 103 N. Saginaw Blvd. It later moved to 404 S. Saginaw, between the library and fire department. In December 1992, the library moved to McLeroy Blvd., setting the stage for expansion of the police department at its current site.
