The principle functions of this Department are the preservation of law and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of persons and property in accordance with the Federal Law, State Law, and City Ordinances and the performance of the many tasks relating to the public�s welfare and safety. Additionally, the prevention of fires, to prevent loss of life or property and fire suppression. In the performance of his duties, a Public Safety Officer is acting not for himself, but for the citizens of Alamogordo. He should, therefore, be fair and impartial, honest and professional, businesslike and act with the dignity expected of those in authority. Service to the public is the task of this Department.
