The Grand Island Police Department consists of 74 sworn officers and 13 civilian employees. The Chief of Police along with the Deputy Chief of Police oversee the department. The agency is made up of the Administrative, Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions, each headed by an individual captain.
Services provided include emergency responses to major crimes, traffic accidents, dangerous incidents, and natural or manmade disasters. Other duties include the enforcement of law through apprehension of offenders, follow-up investigation of crimes, and issuance of traffic citations. The Police Department provides crime prevention activities through drug education, Neighborhood Watch, McGruff Safe House, and other community based programs.
