The City of Russell Police Department, whose chief is Larry Vaughan, provides service to city and county residents. The department furnishes 24 hour a day, 7 day a week services. The Police Department is responsible for the protection and safety of life and property, the investigation of crimes, the enforcement of laws and ordinances and the maintenance of reliable automated records. In addition to these primary duties, the department maintains a close working relationship with area public safety agencies. The department is staffed by eight full-time and six part-time State certified police officers. Full time officers are assigned take home patrol cars. In the event of severe weather, serious fire or other hazardous situation, all officers are able to respond quickly with fully equipped police vehicles.
