The Tarpon Springs Police Department began to develop a comprehensive community-policing operating style in 1990. First, the department began to change its internal culture from a traditional policing philosophy to a community policing philosophy. Then the department began to integrate with the community to resolve crime issues, and better the quality of life for residents within Tarpon Springs. Since the inception of our community based police philosophy under Chief M. Lecouris, the Tarpon Springs Police Department along with the community, has made much progress in meeting community needs. Additionally, our department has implemented many proactive community-policing programs that enhance our community. We are confident that our community-based philosophy and innovative police services will bring our community much success in this new millennium.
