Today the Smyrna Police Department is a modern, full-service agency that has embraced many of the new technologies available to law enforcement in Delaware, including electronic finger-printing and mug-shot capabilities, mobile data terminals in patrol cars, electronic arrest and reporting functions, and a state-of-the-art 800 MHz radio system that connects police officers from one end of the state to the other via portable radios. The department serves the growing Smyrna community with a complement of 18 sworn officers and 9 civilian employees, to include 24 hour emergency police dispatching.
