The Glendale Police Department currently has over 500 employees and serves a culturally diverse community of 207,000 people covering 30.6 square miles. Glendale is the third largest city in Los Angeles County with a Police Department budget of $ 55.5 million. It is noted for being one of the safest large cities in the country. The Chief has coordinated the Department's transition into a brand new 160,000 square foot facility, with a total upgrade of the computer and communications systems.
Chief Adams has also implemented a Wellness Program for employees of the Glendale Police Department, which includes psychological, fitness and nutritional components. His top priority has been to increase staffing, and he is in the process of implementing a Police Expansion Staffing Plan. An additional priority has been the creation and implementation of a K-9 Unit in the Department, which should be operational in 2005.
